Minneapolis, MN—Two pit bulls escaped from a house in Minneapolis and attacked a mail carrier, who was left with at least 40 puncture wounds. The postal worker was delivering mail near the intersection of 33rd and Colfax Avenue North around 1 p.m., when the two dogs mauled him, as reported by KARE11.

Two 9-month-old pit bulls ran from a nearby house and attacked Bryan Bloomquist, 31, leaving him with dozen of puncture wounds. Neighbors and the dogs’ owner ran over to help pry the dogs off the mail carrier, but they wouldn’t budge, not even after beating the dogs with a baseball bat.

De’Angero Boldt ran over to help the man, where he said the mail carrier “stumbled…the dog tackled him on his back. And I thought he was going for his neck.”

When responding police officials arrived at the scene, the dogs turned on them, prompting the officers to fatally shoot them.

Bloomquist was rushed to an area hospital for treatment of at least 40 puncture wounds, scratches and other injuries. Some of the wounds were serious enough that they required stitches and surgery.

The owner of the dogs isn’t sure why the dogs attacked, stating that they have never had problems with them before. The owner received a $675 ticket from animal control.

Police investigators are also considering filing criminal charges as well.
