Oakland, CA—Police believe alcohol is to blame for the death of a pedestrian who was hit and killed by a motorist in Walnut Creek. The fatal accident occurred around 6:05 p.m., on Saturday, 17, 2010 on Treat Boulevard, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.

According to police officials, a pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Treat Boulevard, when the truck lost control, and jumped the median into the westbound lanes before hitting 57-year-old Kathleen Moorhead.

Responding emergency crews rushed Moorhead to John Muir Medical Center where she succumbed to her life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck, Ruel Sasser, 70, of Concord, sustained minor injuries in the wreck. He was treated before officials arrested him and booked him into the Martinez detention facility.

Sasser is being held on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) and vehicular manslaughter. A full investigation into the fatal accident is currently underway by Walnut Creek investigators.
