Houston, TX—A wrong-way, head-on collision killed three people on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 in Fort Bend County. The fatal crash occurred on Highway 59 near Grunwald, just south of the Beasley area at around 1:20 a.m., as reported by ABC 13.

The Texas Department of Safety reported a Jeep was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 59, when the SUV slammed head-on into a Ford Escape.

The driver of the Jeep, Judith Gass, 47, of Houston, and her passenger Lisa Nash, 46, of Houston; along with the driver of the Ford, Ashley Andrews, 27, of El Campo, were killed in the wreck. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police officials reported that they had received calls from other motorists alerting them of the wrong-way driver, but it was too late by the time officer’s caught up with the Jeep.

Authorities believe that alcohol played a role in the fatal wreck. They uncovered a bottle of alcohol inside the Jeep.

A full investigation into the motor vehicle collision is currently underway.
