Hood County, TX—A small aviation accident claimed the lives of a flight instructor and two brothers Tuesday, July 13, 2010. The fatal plane crash occurred in southwest Hood County and is being investigated by officials from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), according to information provided by the Star-Telegram.

Reports indicated three people occupied a Beechcraft Bonanza C33 aircraft when it went down in a hay field around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

According to Trooper Dub Gillum, a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS), the plane crash scene was located off of Farm Road 56 near Tolar.

“We believe it to be a training flight… We just know they were from the Arlington area,” Gillum added.

Gillum noted the 26-year-old flight instructor, Casey Brinegar, as well as the 22-year-old student pilot, Kartik Kalaichelvan, succumbed to their traumatic injuries at the scene.

A passenger aboard the plane, 19-year-old Pratik Kalaichelvan, was airlifted to Forth Worth-based John Peter Smith Hospital, where his injuries eventually proved fatal.

Kartik Kalaichelvan apparently had a driver’s license from India on him at the time. However, it is believed that he had been living in Texas as a student. Pratik Kalaichelvan, Kartik’s brother, was likely visiting from India at the time.

The probe is underway.
