Camdenton, MO—Muddy Outdoors, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), voluntarily recalled 2009 Muddy Outdoors tree climbing sticks due to fall hazards they pose. The CPSC announced the recall, which affects about 2,550 units, on Wednesday, July 14, 2010.

Bolts that secure the cam locs to the climbing sticks’ frame, which holds the rope around the tree being used, has the potential to break. If it does, the cam locks can detach from the frame, subsequently causing the rope to unfasten and the climbing stick to disconnect from the tree. While no injuries have been reported in connection with the defective product, the hazard can leave consumers susceptible to fall-related injuries.

According to the CPSC, “The recalled climbing sticks are used for climbing a tree and include 2009 year Model 70301 – Muddy Outdoors climbing stick (a 20 inch single climbing stick) and 2009 year Model 70304 – Muddy Outdoors climbing stick (4 pack of 20-inch climbing sticks). The year and model number is printed on a label on the front of the main vertical frame of the climbing stick just below the two cam locs.”

The recalled Muddy Outdoors tree climbing sticks were made available for purchase at outdoor sports retail stores, as well as directly from Muddy Outdoors through Internet and telephone sales. The product was on the market from July 2009 through April 2010 and cost approximately $35 for model 70301 and $130 for model 70304.

Consumers have been urged to cease use of the potentially dangerous tree climbing sticks and return them to Muddy Outdoors to receive a full reimbursement, exchange or manufacturer’s credit.

Muddy Outdoors can be reached toll-free at (877) 366-8339 Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. CT for more information concerning the recall. Consumers may also feel free to visit the company’s Web site at www.GoMuddy.com or contact the firm via e-mail at [email protected].
