Toledo, OH—A bizarre accident involving the mechanical gate at the entrance of an Old West End apartment complex proved fatal Sunday afternoon, July 11, 2010. According to Fox Toledo, an 11-year-old girl was crushed to death after becoming caught in the gate for unknown reasons.

Reports indicated the victim, Anjzanae Triplett, had been playing and collecting stones with her younger brother and a friend when the unthinkable occurred.

The kids were fooling around near the entrance gate when it opened, pinning Anjzanae in the gap between the mechanical gate and control box. The young girl succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

“We are just trusting in God to reveal everything… We just have to get solace in him and strength and comfort for the family. Hopefully everything will work out, and be explained in due time during the investigation,” said Anjzanae’s cousin Gwen Banks.

The tragic incident occurred in the parking lot behind the Museum Place apartment complex, located in the 1800 block of Collingwood Boulevard, in close proximity to Jefferson Avenue.

Investigations to determine what might have triggered the gate to open, given that no vehicles were entering or exiting the complex at the time, are underway.
