Chippewa County, WI—Three Rock fest workers were injured when their lift tipped over while they were hanging banners at the Music Festival grounds near Cadott on Thursday, July 15, 2010, as reported by WQOW.

The Chippewa Sheriff’s Department, Chippewa Fire District, Cadott Ambulance and Mayo One responded were called to the Music Festival grounds around 8:45 a.m., where they found three people with internal injuries.

Lt. Mitch Gibson, Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department said the Rock Fest workers were hanging banners to the south of the stage when, “somehow it looked like the Telehandler got off balance, I don’t know if because of elevation or if one of the tires had gotten off too far from the side.”

The lift reportedly hit the building before slamming into the ground. “From what it looks like, they were probably injured when the basket collided with the side of a building on the way down,” said Gibson. “The lift was up probably, I would assume 20 to 25 feet and where the basket fell was actually a lower elevation.”

One worker, a 16-year-old male, was airlifted to a hospital in Marshfield with serious injuries. Two other male workers, ages 30 and 17, also sustained serious injuries in the accident. They were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The driver of the lift was uninjured, but was trapped for sometime after the lift overturned. The driver managed to knock out a window and get out.

A full investigation is underway.
