Tulare County, CA—Two firefighters became involved in a hit-and-run crash as they battled a vehicle fire in the Alpaugh area. The crash occurred early Saturday, June 26, 2010, leaving both firefighters injured, according to information provided by RecorderOnline.com.

Reports indicated two Tulare County firefighters, identified as Pat Hinds and Captain Gary Gregory, were fighting a vehicle blaze north of Avenue 54 and Road 16 after midnight Saturday.

As they worked to extinguish the car fire, a white Ford pickup truck drove out of a dirt road next to the inferno. The pickup truck slammed into the firefighters and subsequently fled the scene.

Hinds was hurled into the air on impact, leaving him with traumatic injuries. Hinds was then flown to Regional Medical Center via air ambulance. His injuries included two broken legs and fractured ribs, along with internal injuries.

Gregory, on the other hand, was knocked over by the vehicle. He suffered minor injuries and was transported to Tulare District Hospital. According to Tulare County Fire Department spokesperson Joe Garcia, Gregory was since been released from the medical center.

Garcia also alleged the occupants of the hit-and-run pickup truck may have ignited the fire in the vehicle and were leaving the scene when the firefighters were struck.

Investigations are expected to be underway.
