Portland, ME—Portland Shellfish Company, Inc. has expanded its recall of lobster meat to include the Meat Without Feet private label food service (2 Lb bags) pack of ready to eat frozen lobster claw and knuckle meat. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall on June 18, 2010.
The recall was initiated after recent testing found that Lot 13310 may be potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled lobster meat was distributed in the New York City metropolitan area.
The FDA press release stated, “Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
Recalled product and Lot number:
• 75 CASES LOBSTER CLAW & KNUCKLE MEAT, Packed 6 x 2 LB bags, FROZEN, packed under Meat Without Feet LABEL, production lot number 13310, shipped on 05/13/2010.
As previously reported by Justice News Flash, Portland Shellfish Co. and the FDA recalled numerous brands of cooked, ready to east fresh or frozen lobster meat last week, which included: Portland Shellfish Co. Inc. brand, Claw island, Craig’s All Natural, and Inland Ocean cooked, fresh or frozen lobster claw and knuckle meat.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled product are advised to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Do not consume the recalled lobster meat.
