Des Moines, IA—Police officials are looking for the driver of an SUV who fled from the scene after being involved in a fatal collision with a motorcyclist. The fatal crash occurred on Interstate Highway 80 on Saturday, June 19, 2010, as reported by the Des Moines Register.

John Longman, 55, of El Paso, Illinois was reportedly riding with a pack of motorcyclists when he apparently lost control between 60th Street and Jordan Creek Parkway. Longman then veered into oncoming traffic where he fell from his motorcycle and was hit by a small white SUV.

The SUV left the scene of the accident, but investigators suspect the driver may not have known he had hit someone. The vehicle probably sustained little to no damage from the accident.

Longman was pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency medical services (EMS) crews.

Police officials are looking for the driver of the SUV. Anyone with information about the driver can call Officer Matt McCarty at 222-3321.

A full investigation into the accident and how it exactly occurred is currently underway. No other bikers were reportedly involved in the fatal wreck.
