Levy County, FL—A violent collision involving a pickup truck and converted bus resulted in one fatality and left six others injured. The fatal crash occurred on Tuesday morning, June 15, 2010, according to information provided by Gainesville.com.

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Trooper C.K. Harris reported 45-year-old Donna L. Bishop traveling eastbound on Alt. U.S. 27 when the motor vehicle collision (MVC) occurred.

As Bishop’s 2004 Chevy pickup truck drove through an intersection around 8:40 a.m., a 1992 school bus—modified as a farm vehicle—failed to stop at a stop sign.

Jesus E. Marino Castillo, 26, was driving the converted bus southbound on County Road 347 at the time. The pickup truck consequently smashed into the right front side of the farming bus.

Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel were subsequently dispatched to the scene. Bishop and her passenger, 52-year-old William A. Bishop, were transported to Shands at the University of Florida.

While William Bishop was being treated for serious injuries sustained in the collision, Donna Bishop’s injuries sadly proved fatal shortly after her arrival at the hospital.

A passenger riding in the converted bus, 36-year-old Valantine Flores, was ejected on impact. She suffered severe injuries and was taken to Shands for treatment as well.

Castillo and three other passengers who occupied the farm vehicle at the time sustained minor injuries in the wreck. The passengers were identified as 24-year-old George Punzo, 26-year-old Sergio Cruz, and 23-year-old Aliasar Coxuhua. It was not stated whether they required medical attention for their injuries.

FHP officials are expected to conduct a full probe into the deadly truck-bus wreck. No charges have been filed as of yet.
