Daytona Beach, FL—A toddler suffered serious injuries after falling three stories from the open window of an apartment Monday, June 7, 2010. The injurious incident occurred at the Cape Morris Cove Apartments in Daytona Beach, according to information provided by WFTV.com.

Reports indicated Cecily Miller, the 3-year-old child’s mother, opened the window of her third floor apartment prior to the horrific episode. Just after 7 p.m. Monday, however, the young girl managed to push on the screen of the window. Upon doing so, she fell 21 feet to the ground below.

Miller noticed what had happened and rushed to her daughter’s side. “She was crying, she was trying to get up. The mother kept telling her to lay still,” explained neighbor Marlene Allen.

Though police officials were notified of the incident, the 911 call somehow came out as a “suspicious woman”. It was only when deputies arrived at the apartment complex that they realized the severity of the incident.

Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel arrived at the scene about 20 minutes after the child fell. The unidentified tot was then rushed to Halifax Medical Center.

She was subsequently transferred to Orlando’s Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital via medical helicopter. The extent of the child’s injuries was not immediately known.

Daytona Beach Police believe the incident was accidental and are treated it as such.
