Lakeville, MN—Ryt-way Industries LLC, in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), voluntarily recalled certain units of BIGS ® Original Salted & Roasted Sunflower Seeds. The FDA announced the product safety recall on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, due to undeclared dairy ingredients.
The Lakeville, Minnesota-based manufacturer recalled the sunflower seeds because the packaging does not list dairy ingredients. If a person is allergic to, or has a serious sensitivity to dairy products, they may run the risk of suffering from a potentially lethal allergic reaction. The manufacturer has not received any reports of illnesses as of yet.
According to the FDA, “The product is packaged in 5.35oz plastic bags with BEST BY Dates of 30MAY2011 and 31MAY2011 with an individual bag UPC code 896887002196.” The packages of BIGS ® Original Salted & Roasted Sunflower Seeds were reportedly sold in supermarkets, convenience stores and U.S. military commissaries nationwide.
Consumers with allergies or a food sensitivity to dairy products should not consume BIGS ® Original Salted & Roasted Sunflower Seeds. Those who have purchased the mislabeled sunflower seeds may return them to the place of purchase to receive a full reimbursement.
