Huntington Beach, FL—Nirve Sports Ltd. and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a voluntary recall of Chopper-style bicycles over a serious fall and injury hazard the products pose. The CPSC released the recall on Wednesday, May 5, 2010.
About 725 Red Star 100, Skulls 285 and Cannibal Chopper 340 bicycles have been recalled. It was discovered that the bicycle stem on the handlebars could crack and cause the rider to loose control of the bike, posing a serious risk of injury.
The CPSC stated, “This recall involves three models: Red Star, Skulls and Cannibal chopper-style bicycles with the model names printed on the chain guard. Red Star has a black finish; Skulls bear a skull graphic and come in gray and black; and Cannibal bears a dragon graphic and comes in a black finish. Serial numbers are located on the bottom of the bicycle between the pedals.”

The recalled bicycles were sold at Nirve Sports showrooms, online and through authorized dealers nationwide. They were sold from December 2008 through April 2009 for about $300 to $600.
Consumers are advised to stop using the bicycles immediately and bring then to the place of purchase in order to receive a free repair.
