Meeker County, MN—Two fatalities were reported following a fiery three-vehicle accident on Minnesota Highway 7, just east of Cosmos on April 29, 2010. The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office reported two semis collided around 7:22 a.m., which also left one person seriously injured, as reported by the Grand Forks Herald.

A Conway Freight semi, which was hauling dual trailers, was reportedly hit by another tractor-trailer who crossed the center line on Highway 7, and side swiped the Conway Freight truck. The impact caused both trucks to crash into a ditch on opposite sides of the highway. The second semi, which belongs to Moon Creek Ranch, struck a passenger car as it careened toward the ditch, pulling the car into the ditch as well. The Moon Creek semi then erupted into a blazing fire. The car was apparently pulling out from a driveway when it was hit.

The driver of the burning semi, 50-year-old Christopher Dorholt of Bloomington, and a passenger inside the car, 83-year-old Ermand Schultz of Cosmos, were pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency crews. The driver of the car, 79-year-old Beverly Schultz, was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis for treatment of their serious injuries. Schultz is reportedly in serious condition. The driver of the other 18-wheeler was not injured.

The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the fatal crash.

The Meeker County Sheriff ’s Office, Cosmos Ambulance, Cosmos Fire Department, Cosmos Rescue, Hutchinson Ambulance, Hutchinson Fire Department, Life Link III, Minnesota Department of Transportation and the state fire marshal’s office all responded to the scene as well.
