Gurley, AL—A tragic accident involving a lawn mower and an 8-year-old boy occurred near Gurley in Madison County, Alabama on Tuesday, April 20, 2010. The child suffered fatal injuries after he was run over by his father’s lawnmower, according to information provided by WHNT.com.

Reports stated the victim’s father was helping a neighbor with some yard work when the horrific accident occurred outside a residence on Powell Street. While specific details as to how the deadly lawn mowing mishap occurred were scarce, 8-year-old Shane Malone was allegedly run over by the potentially dangerous machine. To make matters worse, it apparently took emergency medical services (EMS) responders 17 minutes to arrive at the scene of the accident, due to excessive traffic.

Shane Malone was transported to Huntsville Hospital, though he unfortunately succumbed to his severe injuries upon arriving at the medical center. Reports also noted the child’s parents became involved in a motor vehicle accident en route to the hospital to see their son. Shane’s mother, Gina Malone, allegedly suffered serious injuries in the car crash and was subsequently taken to Huntsville Hospital and placed in the surgical intensive care unit for treatment. It was not stated whether Shane’s father suffered any injuries in the accident.
