Hamilton County, FL—A motor vehicle collision (MVC) involving two 18-wheelers caused three people to suffer injuries ranging from serious to critical. The violent two-semi crash occurred in Hamilton County, Florida on Monday, April 12, 2010, according to information provided by Gainesville.com.

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Corporal Linda Albritton reported a 2002 Freightliner, driven by 58-year-old motorist Rhonda Cockerham, traveling eastbound on CR 152 at approximately 9:10 a.m. Cockerham allegedly ran a stop sign at the junction of CR 152 and CR 141, just as a 1992 Freightliner, driven by 51-year-old Edwin Baez, traveling north on CR 152. Cockerham’s semi-truck consequently t-boned the left side of Baez’s 18-wheeler, causing it to overturn in the roadway on impact. Cockerham’s rig reportedly rolled onto its right side as well.

Cockerham suffered critical injuries in the tractor-trailer wreck and was taken to Shands at the University of Florida to receive medical treatment. A passenger who was also occupying the rig at the time, 59-year-old Elzie Cockerham, suffered serious injuries and was also taken to Shands. Baez was transported to South Georgia Medical Center for serious injuries as well.

FHP officials are conducting a full probe into the 18-wheeler accident to determine if any charges will be issued.
