Kansas City Police Department alert- A school bus crash in Kansas City killed a young girl.

Kansas City, KS—A school bus on its way to pick up students for school on Thursday, March 4, 2010, hit and killed a 9-year-old girl for unknown reasons. The fatal and unfortunate accident occurred around 8:30 a.m., near 66th Street and Parkview Avenue, as reported by The Kansas City Star.

According to the Kansas City Police Department, it is currently unknown what caused the Kansas City School District bus to hit the young girl. When officials arrived at the scene of the crash, they were informed by responding paramedics that the child had died. A yellow tap could be seen on the ground next to the school bus where the girl passed away. There reportedly were no curbs or sidewalks in the area where the girl was fatally struck. The girl’s identity is currently being withheld pending positive identification and family notification. The tragic crash is currently under investigation by police officials, and it hasn’t been reported if the driver will face charges for the crash. The children on the school bus were transferred to another district school bus to continue the rest of the way to school. A crisis team is expected to arrive at the school to offer counseling for the witnesses and friends of the girl.
