Fire hazard: CPSC announced recall of Fellowes Climate Control Footrests

Itasca, IL (News)—Fellowes, Inc. has participated in the voluntary recall of Climate Control Footrests due to the fire threat they pose to consumers. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) http://www.cpsc.gov announced the product recall on Thursday, February 25, 2010.

The CPSC declared that approximately 1,000 Fellowes Climate Control Footrests were recalled due to reports stating, “The footrest’s fan can become blocked and overheat when used in the upright position, posing a fire hazard.” The firm has not received any reports of injuries as of yet. The brand item #80309 can be located on the bottom side of the black plastic footrest, on a serial label that can be recognized by “Revision or letter “A” on the label, which appears after the date code”.

These footrests were only sold in by Business-to-Business resellers, which included Office Depot Business Services Division, SP Richards, Staples Advantage, United Stationers, Tri-Mega, and WW Grainger. The footrests were sold for approximately $73 from October 2009 to January 2010.

The CPSC has urged consumers to stop using Fellowes Climate Control Footrests and contact Fellowes at (800) 955-3344 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT or online at www.fellowes.com to receive a full reimbursement or replacement product.
