Litchfield, MN—Eight students were rushed to nearby hospitals after their school bus was involved in a collision with a pickup truck. The school bus crash occurred on Friday, February 12, 2010 around 7:30 a.m., at the intersection of County Road 21 and Highway 15 near Kingston in Meeker County, as reported by the Star-Tribune.

The Dassel Cokato School District was reportedly traveling eastbound on County Road 21, when a southbound pickup truck on Highway 15 slammed into the rear side of the bus. Police officials stated that the school bus stopped at the stop sign, when it entered the intersection and was hit by the truck. A total of 17 students were on board of the bus at the time of the crash. Eight students were taken by emergency medical services (EMS) teams to two hospitals for treatment of their injuries. The kids reportedly had “no apparent serious injuries,” but were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure. The bus driver, John Rokala, 78, of Dassel was uninjured in the crash. The truck driver, Daniel Schneider, 28, of Kimball was only “”slightly hurt.” A full investigation is underway by police officials. It is unknown if anyone was cited for the collision.
