Charlotte, NC (News)—A motor vehicle collision (MVC) involving a school bus and a truck left 12 people injured. It is reported that 11 of the people injured in the crash were students riding on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school bus. The two-vehicle crash occurred on Tuesday morning, February 9, 2010, according to information provided by the Charlotte Observer.

The bus reportedly became involved in the motor vehicle accident after 8:30 a.m. though details as to how the wreck occurred were slim. News provided by WSOCtv.com stated that the bus was violently rear-ended by the truck involved. The incident occurred in the 5200 block of Freedom Drive, en route to Whitewater Middle School. By 9:20 a.m. the crash-affected area on Freedom Drive was reported closed off to motorists.

Medic emergency medical services (EMS) crews responded to the scene to transport those injured in the crash to area hospitals to be treated by doctors and nurses. Injuries sustained in the wreck were reported to be non-life threatening though 12 people, which included the bus driver and 11 students, were transported to either Carolinas Medical Center or Presbyterian Hospital. It was unknown whether the driver of the truck involved was treated for any injuries after the accident. The remaining uninjured students were allegedly taken to school on another bus that responded at the scene. The cause of the crash was not yet known. Accident investigations are expected to be underway.
