Ninety-one people were injured in Jamaica when American Airlines plane crashed into fence beyond the airport runway.

Miami, FL—An American Airlines plane en route to Kingston, Jamaica, ran off the runway upon its arrival at the Jamaican airport, which hospitalized 91 people on Tuesday, December 22, 2009, according to CNN News. There were a total of 148 passengers as well as six crew members aboard the Boeing 737 on flight AA331. The plane allegedly departed from Miami International Airport and landed at Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston around 10:20 p.m., when the incident occurred. Upon landing, the plane reportedly failed to stop, continuing down the runway until it crashed into a fence beyond the runway, crossed Port Royal Road, and eventually came to a rest on the beach, according to accident details provided by the Jamaica Observer.

Emergency medical services (EMS) crews on the scene transported 91 victims of the 154 total individuals aboard the aircraft at the time of the crash to Kingston Public Hospital to be treated by doctors and nurses. It was reported that none of the injuries sustained in the wreck were critical, and that all were released from the hospital except for four passengers who may have to stay overnight. Injuries allegedly consisted mostly of broken bones, and bumps and bruises. There were no reports of any fatalities in the crash.

Physical damage to the aircraft reportedly consisted of a broken fuselage, structural cracks, as well as the landing gear on one side of the Boeing 737 collapsed. The cause of the crash is unknown, though rainy weather conditions were reported at the time of the incident. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) http://www.faa.gov is investigating.
