Driver fatally injured after car crashes into tree.

West Palm Beach, FL—A man tragically died in a one-vehicle crash after he struck a tree on Monday, December 21, 2009, according to information provided by the Palm Beach Post. It was reported that the driver of a Nissan 300ZX, Kyle Reese Chiet, 20, was traveling westbound on Southern Boulevard around 9:45 a.m. when the incident occurred. Chiet was allegedly driving in the center lane of the roadway when he lost control of his vehicle. Subsequently, the Nissan began to veer north across Southern Blvd., eventually jumping a curb and a sidewalk. The car then reportedly continued across two lanes of Palm Beach International Airport’s (PBIA) Perimeter Road, until coming to a rest after striking a tree.

According to fire rescue crews, Chiet was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash after sustaining fatal car crash injuries. It was the day before Chiet’s 21st birthday.

It was allegedly reported that investigators from the Palm Beach County Sherriff’s Office suspect that street racing may have played a role in the crash. Based on data provided by the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA), the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles a reported 48 street racing accidents, resulted in one fatality and 60 injuries in 2002. Officials also issued 7,216 citations for illegal street racing in 2001. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) allegedly reported that in 2001, street racing was acknowledged as a factor in 135 fatal car crashes. Officials continue to investigate the cause of the fatal car wreck.
