Dallas, TX—A good Samaritan was hit and killed by a car while he was trying to direct traffic around a crash. The fatal crash happened on Sunday, September 20, 2009 around 6:15 a.m., on Interstate 20, as reported by the Star-Telegram.

According to Arlington police, a man stopped to help the victims involved in a multiple vehicle crash between Collins Street and Matlock, when a car hit him. The unidentified man was reportedly directing traffic around the crash scene when the incident occurred. Police officials stated at some point the man, who was a government employee, was hit by a car. Police officials are currently withholding the identity of the man until the family members have been notified. The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by responding emergency medical services (EMS) crews. EMS crews also transported a man and a woman who were injured in the initial crash to the John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth for treatment. Arlington police said the driver who hit the good Samaritan was not speeding or under the influence of alcohol when the crash occurred. The driver may not face any charges in connection with the crash. Police officials are conducting a full investigation into the fatal crash.
