Florida 2 vehicle crash kills one and injures 2 in San Mateo.

Jacksonville, FL(JusticeNewsFlash.com)–A two-vehicle automobile accident between a car and a pickup truck killed one person and injured two on Monday in San Mateo, Florida. Palatka Daily News reports the pickup truck wreck took place on State Road 100, a two-lane highway, just a few miles east of U.S. 17. Putnam County police officials identified the driver of the car to be a 26 year-old Lake Placid man named Noe Cervantes. The vehicle was carrying one passenger, 31 year-old, Felipe Vazquez, also of Lake Placid. San Mateo area highway accident investigators say the driver of the pickup truck, identified as a dark-colored Ford Explorer, was a 50 year-old Palatka woman named Susan Basse. Police officials did not indicate whether the pickup truck had any passengers. The automobile, driven by Cervantes, was traveling westbound, while Basse’s pickup truck was heading eastbound.

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) state troopers claim the vehicles crossed the center line of the two-lane highway and crashed into one another. The motor vehicles ended up in the center of the freeway after the collision. San Mateo police investigators say the cause of the motor vehicle collision (MVC) is unclear. Florida emergency medical services (EMS) crews pronounced Cervantes dead at the accident scene. His passenger, Vazquez, was airlifted to Shands UF in Gainesville, for treatment of his critical injuries by doctors and nurses. Basse suffered major injuries and was transported by Putnam County paramedics to a Jacksonville hospital. San Mateo area police officers say the cause of the two-vehicle car crash remains under investigation.
