Florida SUV accident kills pickup truck passenger

Sumter County SUV driver hits pickup truck head-on killing passenger.

Tampa Bay, FL(JusticeNewsFlash.com)–An automobile accident in Sumter County, Florida claimed the life of a 61 year-old woman Sunday morning. The St. Petersburg Times reported the fatal SUV crash happened around 11:30 a.m. on County Road 475, north of County Road 314 in Sumter County. Florida highway accident investigators say a 2005 Nissan SUV, driven by 26 year-old, Keara Simmons, was heading southbound on County Road 475. Simmons drifted onto the shoulder of the road and attempted to regain control of the SUV. The Nissan SUV driver then crossed the center roadway line, into northbound traffic, struck a 1985 Ford F-150 pickup truck driver who was traveling northbound, and rolled over.

The pickup truck was driven by Robert W. Bowles of Clearwater, Florida. His passenger, 61 year-old Gloria D. Byars of Clearwater was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical services (EMS) crews. Bowles suffered serious injuries and was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Simmons, and her 3 year-old passenger, Kenyla Simmons, both of Lake Panasoffkee, Florida, also sustained serious injuries. Sumter County area emergency medical personnel took Keara Simmons to Leesburg Regional Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. Kenyla Simmons is being treated by doctors and nurses at the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children for the injuries she suffered in the SUV rollover accident.
