Republican President George W. Bush signed an executive order restoring Libya’s immunity from terrorism-related lawsuits. Libya made its final $1.5 billion payment to a fund for attacks in 1988.

November 1, 2008, West Palm Beach, FL, recent news: President Bush signed an executive order renewing, Colonel Muammar al-Gaddafi’s terrorist country Libya, immunity from terrorism-related lawsuits. This order further dismisses pending legal actions seeking compensation for injuries and deaths due to terrorism. In 2003, Libya agreed to pay $2.7 billion to families, of the 270 victims, of the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland. The completion of the 2003 agreement was delayed due to Libya’s involvement in other acts of terrorism. These acts of terrorism led to more lawsuits fighting for victims’ and families killed and injured by terrorists’ violence.
