Dallas – A reported 46 people have been indicted on charges stemming from the alleged smuggling of drugs on flights from the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. The Associated Press reported a majority of the defendants are from northern Texas and stand accused of smuggling the packages into several cities including Las Vegas, Chicago, and San Francisco.

The indictment was issued by a federal grand jury in Dallas last month. According to authorities four of the defendants were either employed at the airport or had ties to someone who worked there that allowed them to get past security screening. The indictment said the scam began in 2011.

The range of charges filed against the individuals include intent to distribute cocaine and money laundering. The FBI, Internal Revenue, and Dallas police were each involved with the investigation.

As noted by the AP, the DFW Airport serves over two-dozen airlines.
