New York – A law firm representing families of passengers aboard a Malaysian Airlines flight bound for Beijing that disappeared earlier this month recently filed a petition seeking records from the airline and aircraft manufacturer. As reported by Reuters, Chicago-based Ribbeck Law issued a statement regarding the filing last week indicating the airline and others face a lawsuit in connection with the disaster.

Malaysia Airlines has stated that an analysis of satellite data shows the missing Boeing 777 jetliner crashed into the Indian Ocean. All 239 people on board were presumed dead, according airline officials.

Monica Kelly, the lead Ribbeck lawyer in the case, is quoted as saying in a statement, “We believe that both defendants named are responsible for the disaster of Flight MH 370.”

The petition was reportedly filed in behalf of Januari Siregar, a parent of one of the individuals aboard the flight.
