Washington – Former chief of staff for Sen. Lamar Alexander made an appearance in court on Thursday on charges of possession and distribution of child pornography. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), it was the first court appearance for Ryan Loskarn in the case.

According to a court filing, Loskarn was found to have made several purchases in 2010 and 2011 from a movie production company being investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and Toronto Police Service. Most of the company’s films featured young nude boys.

Alexander, R-Tenn., released a statement regarding the case against Loskarn, whom he replaced on Wednesday with David Cleary, the senator’s legislative director, stating that “under these circumstances, he cannot continue to fulfill his duties as chief of staff.”

If convicted, Loskarn faces up to 10 years on the charge of possession and five to 20 years on the charge of distribution.
