Kansas City, Kansas – The Kansas Senate has passed a bill that places new restrictions on abortion services and sex education in schools. As reported by Reuters, the 70-page bill was approved by a vote of 28-10 and is expected to pass the Republican majority House of Representatives.

Many who oppose the measure purport that it intrudes on a woman’s right to an abortion and presents additional women’s health concerns. Advocates suggest it aids in making women’s decisions in related matters more informed.

Kathy Ostrowski, legislative director of Kansans for Life, is quoted by Reuters as stating of the bill, “this fulfills the legislative intent to create a pro-life state.”

School districts are also prohibited from allowing Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers to provide materials or instruction about sexually transmitted diseases or human sexuality under the measure.
