New York – A woman has been awarded a substantial settlement in a whistleblower claim brought against multinational financial services corporation Citigroup. As reported by Bloomberg, the financial giant agreed to pay $158.3 million in a settlement in February after being accused of fraudulent business practices that included processing bad mortgages. Sherry Hunt, who came forward about the corporation’s actions in a whistleblower case was awarded $31 million.

Hunt is quoted in the report as stating of being hopeful that others will be inspired to come forward in similar positions, “I want people to know they can come forward…If I can do it, they can do it. We need to change what’s wrong in our own backyards, and that’s how we end up changing the big things.”
