Genesee County, MI — A farm accident caused a Genesee County woman to lose part of her right leg Wednesday, December 7, 2011. The work-related accident occurred at Rumble Farms on Drake Street Road in Elba around 3:30 p.m., reported the Democrat and Chronicle.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office reported that 24-year-old Diana M. Beechler, of Maple Avenue, Oakfield, was inside a grain cart while cleaning corn out of the bottom, when she got caught and pulled into the auger by her right leg and part of her right arm.

Thankfully, a local hunter that happened to come upon the farm machinery noticed the power take off of the tractor was experiencing problems. That is when he found Beechler stuck in the auger.

He turned off the tractor and called 911.

Emergency crews and volunteer fire departments from Elba, Oakfield and the town of Batavia; along with Mercy EMS Ambulance, Mercy Flight and the Genesee County Emergency Management all responding to the scene.

It took 90-minutes to extract Beechler from the machinery.

Beechler was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries. Officials reported that Beechler’s right leg was severed above the knee.

Investigations into the farm accident are underway.
