Peekskill, NY — Investigations are underway into why a bus driver did not report a traffic accident that sent 21 students to the hospital on Thursday, November 17, 2011. The school bus crash occurred between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on the 700 block of Elm Street, reported LoHud.com.

The students were reportedly taken to Hillcrest Elementary School following the collision, where they alerted school officials of the accident.

Peekskill Emergency Medical Services and paramedics from the Peekskill Fire Department were called to the school after some students complained of head and neck pain, along with dizziness.

Eight students were taken to an area hospital via ambulance, while 13 others were transported by bus.

None of the injuries appeared to be serious, according to school officials.

Police believe the school bus sideswiped a car, but it is unknown if the vehicle was parked or moving at the time of the crash.

The bus driver has been detained and is being questioned about the incident and leaving the scene of an accident.

Investigations are underway.
