10 Injured in South Florida Tri-Rail Train, Vehicle Crash

Broward County, FL — Ten people were injured Sunday, November 6, 2011, when a Tri-Rail train collided with a car in Oakland Park. The train crash occurred just before 7 p.m. on the CSX railroad tracks at Commercial Boulevard, just went of Interstate 95, reported the Miami Herald.

According to reports, a Tri-Rail train hit a vehicle on the railroad tracks, injuring 10 people aboard the passenger train.

The occupants of the vehicle managed to get out of the vehicle and to safety, before impact.

The collision left nine people with non-life-threatening injuries and one person with more serious injuries.

The impact of the crash “bumped the train a little bit,” said Cody Schisler of Boynton Beach, who was a passenger on the train, the Palm Beach Post reported.

The injured were transported to Holy Cross Hospital and Broward General Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.

It is unknown why the vehicle was on the tracks, leading to the crash.

Investigations are underway.
