Rutherford County, TN — One person was killed and 10 others were injured when a SUV and a Rutherford Schools bus collided head-on Saturday morning, October 1, 2011. The fatal crash occurred around 9:45 a.m., on Highway 231 at Cedar Forest Road, reported The Tennessean.

According to on bus video camera—which captured the collision—the SUV driver veered over the center line and collided with the school bus. The bus subsequently went over the top of the car, revealed Rutherford County Director of Schools Harry Gill to the Tennessean.

The driver of the SUV, Michael L. Henry, 60, of Pleasant Shade, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nine students were transported to University Medical Center in Lebanon for treatment of “minor” injuries. Eight of the injured students were reportedly treated and released.

The school bus driver, Holly Lane, 31, of Murfreesboro, was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and is listed in stable condition at this time.

The video captured by the camera aboard the school bus was turned over to the Tennessee Highway Patrol for investigation purposes.

The school bus was reportedly one of the two school buses who were headed to Lebanon High School for a band competition. The bus involved in the crash was carrying about 50 Oakland High School Band members.

It is unknown what caused Henry to drift over the center line, but according to his sister, she believes he may have suffered a heart attack while behind the wheel.

Henry has allegedly had medical issues with his heart for a few years.

Investigations are underway.
