Hawaii Resident Hit, Killed by Semi-Truck on I-80 in Tooele County

Tooele County, UT — A man who stepped out of his parked car on Interstate 80 in Tooele County, was hit and killed by semi-truck near mile marker 95. The fatal semi-truck accident occurred Friday, July 29, 2011, at around 5:30 a.m., reported Fox13Now.
The Utah Highway Patrol reported that the pedestrian, who was a man is his 50s and was from Hawaii, pulled off the side of the highway in his rental car, which was past due. The man parked the car and stepped out the vehicle, when the passing semi-truck hit him.
“From what the semi driver was telling us, the male subject was walking across I-80 south. Then at that point he struck the individual and he’s now deceased,” said Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Chris Lewis said to Fox13.
Police are looking into whether the man was just crossing the road or if he had stopped on the highway on purpose.
The driver of the semi-truck was not injured, but shaken up.
The Utah Highway Patrol is conducting a full investigation into the fatal semi-truck accident.
