Cleveland, OH — A 55-year-old Cleveland man was arrested Friday, June 10, 2011, after he allegedly shot an 11-year-old girl who was playing on his front lawn. The neighbor reportedly was upset that the group of children were playing in his front yard and bumped into his car, reported Fox 8.

According to Shamarra Hall, 10, she and the victim, Ivhan`e Merritt, were among the group of children playing on the neighbor’s front lawn when Merritt was shot. Charles DuBose, 55, reportedly became angry and shot the girl.

“We started running and then that’s when my friend Ivhan`e goes ‘I got shot, I got shot,’ and we thought she was playing until she fell,” Hall told the station.

Merritt was rushed to an area hospital for treatment of gun shot wounds. Her mother, Aquadea Merritt, said the bullet grazed her daughter’s liver.

Ivhan`e is expected to be released from the hospital shortly.

Investigations into the shooting are underway.
