Webster, NY — A worker was killed on the construction site of the Monroe County Water Authority’s water treatment plant Monday morning, April 11, 2011. The fatal construction accident occurred near the intersection of Lake and Basket roads at 10:30 a.m., when the worker was run over by an underground locomotive, reported the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.

According to police officials, the man, who remains unidentified, was working apart a five-man crew who were tunneling through bedrock 16 stories below ground under Lake Ontario when he fell off a small, underground locomotive and was subsequently run over.

The railroad cars are used to shuttle out the refuse the drill disperses as it’s tunneling.

The worker was killed in the accident.

Investigators with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will be arriving at the scene to conduct a full investigation.
