Lake Placid, FL — Two people were killed after a water tank burst and created a tsunami-like wave on Thursday April 7, 2011. The accident occurred around 2:00 p.m. on State Road 70, just west of 27 in Lake Placid, reported WTSP.

Officials reported that two workers may have been attempting to fill a 300,000 gallon tank, when it burst and unleashed a wall of water.

The force of the water was so intense that it ripped through a concrete block wall at a nearby industrial building, which caused the building to collapse onto two workers inside the structure.

The two workers were killed in the incident. Their identities are currently being withheld pending family notification.

It is unknown what caused the water tank to rupture.

Investigators from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are looking into the incident.
