Galesburg, IL—A worker was killed in a workplace accident at Midstate Manufacturing Corporation, when the employee fell through the ceiling. The fatal industrial accident occurred at around 8:26 a.m., at 750 W. Third Street, as reported by the Galesburg Register-Mail.

According to officials, Walter Cassiday, 63, was working on the lighting in the ceiling above a paint booth. Apparently, Cassiday stepped off the catwalk onto mesh ceiling, which gave way under his weight. Cassidy fell and hit his face on a metal box in the paint booth as he fell.

Responding emergency crews rushed Cassidy, who had a bleeding nose, to Galesburg Cottage Hospital where he was later transferred to a Peoria hospital. He was pronounced dead by medical professionals at the Peoria-area hospital.

A full investigation into the workplace accident is underway. Officials with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are also expected to investigate.
