San Francisco, CA—A fatal collision involving a San Francisco Municipal Railway (Muni) bus and a bicyclist on Thursday, October 7, 2010 left a 22-year-old man dead. The crash occurred at about 5 p.m., on Sixth Avenue between Geary Boulevard and Clement Street, as reported by the San Jose Mercury News.

Police officials reported that Derek Allen, 22, was riding his bicycle north on Sixth Avenue, when he crashed with a northbound Muni bus.

According to preliminary reports, police believe Allen may have stepped into the street in front of the bus, and the bus driver swerved to avoid him, but couldn’t.

It was not reported if Allen died at the scene or was transported to a hospital first.

The bus driver remained at the scene, and was reported shaken by the wreck. The Muni driver is cooperating in the accident investigations.
