Palm Springs, CA—A two-vehicle head-on collision injured six people, including a child, on Thursday, July 1, 2010. Officials stated the accident occurred near the Palm Springs International Airport around 9:30 a.m., at Ramon Road and Paseo Dorotea, as reported by The Desert Sun.

Officers reported the head-on collision involved a white Ford van and a gray Saturn sedan. Authorities believe the driver of the sedan may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the wreck.

The van was reportedly so badly damaged that rescue teams had to use the Jaws of Life to extract the male driver from the vehicle.

A child riding in the van suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Five adults who were also riding in the van suffered injured ranging from minor to major. They were also taken to an area hospital for medical treatment.

The two women, two men and a toddler riding in the sedan seemingly escaped the collision without injury.

Police officers are conducting a full investigation into the two-vehicle crash. It is unknown if the driver of the sedan was found to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
