Salt Lake City, UT—Salt Lake City police were led on a bizarre chase, when a unclothed female who was undergoing a mental evaluation stole two cars, including a police cruiser, and took off. Police officers chased the naked woman through two Salt Lake City suburbs, before subduing her with a stun gun, as reported by MSNBC.

Police officials do not believe drugs or alcohol were responsible for her erratic behavior, which also caused her to run through sagebrush, instead officials say there “appears to be mental issues involved,” said Police Capt. Tom McLachlan.

The police chase began in West Jordan when the woman, who was already wearing her “birthday suit” got out of her car, and jumped into another car that was running and drove away. The woman, who is in her early 30’s, then crashed that car and bailed. The naked woman then ran into some sagebrush, where officers spotted her and called for assistance. As the other officer arrived at the scene, the erratic woman ran towards them, slipping through their grasp before jumping into one of the cruisers and taking off. She then drove the police cruiser through a large gate.

The chase finally ended when the woman failed to negotiate a sharp left turn, causing the vehicle ramp off a berm, where it traveled about 50 feet and hit the ground so hard it bent the car’s frame. The woman then tried to climb a chain-link fence in nearby West Valley City, where officers finally apprehended her with a stun gun.

Doctors say that they need to finish a medical assessment before officers can decided whether or not they want to press charges.

A full investigation is underway.
