Minneapolis, MN—On Thursday, May 27, 2010, Minneapolis police arrested a mother and her boyfriend for what they called “one of the worse child abuse cases they have ever seen.” A 6-year-old boy was violently beaten at a home in the 4300 block of Irving Avenue North, in northern Minneapolis, as reported by KARE11.
The Minneapolis Police Department stated that the young boy was tied to a pole in the basement with a telephone wire, and repeatedly beaten with an extension cord. The boyfriend, Troy Lamont Clay, 37, reportedly beat the boy while his mother just stood by and watched. The boy was allegedly whipped 60 to 100 times.
Police officials described the beatings as “something out of the dark ages,” they were “barbaric beatings.”
Clay was arrested and charged with first degree assault. He is currently being held in the Hennepin County jail. The mother, Jacquelyn Wanda Williams, 31, was charged with assault, but was not arrested. A warrant has reportedly been issued for her arrest.
When school officials first discovered his injuries, they boy told then that a dog had attacked him.
The boy and his 10-year-old sister are currently in protective custody.
A full investigation is underway.
