Lake Forest, IL—Brunswick Bowling & Billiards Corp., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), voluntarily recalled approximately 750 Voltaire Swivel Chairs. The CPSC announced the product safety recall on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, with regard to a fall hazard the product may pose.

The recall stems from a defect in which the chairs frame has the potential to detach from the actual seating portion of the chair. This problem puts consumers at an increased risk of suffering fall-related injuries.

While the Lake Forest, Illinois-based distributor has not received any reports of injuries in connection with the chairs, they were apparently informed of one instance of frame separation.

According to the CPSC, “This recall involves swivel chairs with a steel frame attached with wood backrest and a wooden seat. The chairs are identified as model numbers 830B and 830D.”

The recalled chairs were sold by Brunswick distributors and at bowling centers nationwide from May 2008 through December 2008. They were valued at about $200. They were not sold in retail stores.

Consumers have been urged to cease use of the hazardous Voltaire Swivel chairs and contact Brunswick to arrange a complimentary replacement. The company has informed all known consumers of the recall.

Consumers may contact the Brunswick Warranty Department at (800) 937-2695 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET or online at www.BrunswickBowling.com for additional information.
