Pompano Beach, FL—A violent single-vehicle rollover crash resulted in the hospitalization of a mother and her two young children. The motor vehicle accident occurred on Friday afternoon, May 14, 2010. Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers also reportedly arrested the mother upon her release from the hospital, according to information provided by CBS4.

Reports stated Roseline Jean-Baptiste was driving a red Chevy Cobalt along Interstate 95 (I-95) when the horrific wreck occurred. Jean-Baptiste apparently swerved on the highway in an attempt to avoid debris when her vehicle rolled over several times. The Chevy only came to a rest after smashing into a concrete wall and ejecting the driver’s 1-year-old son.

The infant, identified as Jacob Mentor, was allegedly thrown over an 18-foot sound barrier wall and into a resident’s back yard. Residents Jan and Robert Blount were inside their kitchen when they heard the crash and saw Jacob soar over the wall. Jan allegedly called 911 while Robert waited for medical personnel with the child.

According to Robert Blount, “I thought I was coming out to see a dead child. The child was crying. We knew his lungs were good. We knew he had to be stunned.” Jan noted, “He never said anything but, the moment he touched his arm, he started to scream, so we feel his arm might be broken.”

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue crews arrived at the scene to rush Jacob to an awaiting BSO Air Rescue helicopter. He was subsequently airlifted to North Broward General Medical Center. Jacob was released from the hospital on Saturday, with a scratch on his ear.

Jean-Baptiste and her 3-year-old daughter Saniece Mentor were transported to Broward General Medical Center as well. They were listed in good condition.

Jean-Baptiste was treated for non-life threatening injuries and apprehended upon her release. She faces two citations for improper child restraint and one for her lack of a valid driver’s license. Jean-Baptiste also reportedly faces two counts of child neglect and two counts of culpable negligence. She also allegedly has an immigration hold.
