Provo, UT—A head-on collision between a semi-truck and a Ford F-150 pickup truck resulted in the death of one person, and injured another on Saturday, March 9, 2010. The fatal crash occurred around 2:30 p.m., in Spanish Fork Canyon on Route 89, when the truck tried to pass another vehicle, as reported by the Desert News.

Trent Walker, 24, was reportedly driving his Ford F-150 in the northbound lanes of State Route 89, when he decided to try and pass another slower moving vehicle. As Walker was passing the other vehicle, he slammed head-on into a semi-truck that was loaded down with mattresses. The violent collision killed Walker on impact. Responding emergency medical services (EMS) teams said that he died at the scene. The driver of the semi, Slobodan Spanovic, 45, was airlifted by a helicopter to the University Hospital in critical condition. Spanovic was reportedly released by Saturday evening. Officials reported that Spanovic was wearing his seat belt, but they were not able to determine whether Walker was or not. A full investigation in to the fatal and tragic head-on collision is currently underway. The section of Route 89 near the scene of the crash was shut down for some time following the wreck so that crews could clean spilt oil and debris from the roadway.
