Product liability attorney alerts- CPSC announces recall of defective product due to fingertip amputation hazard.

Charlotte, NC (News)—Britax Child Safety, Inc. has participated in the voluntary recall of “Blink” Umbrella Strollers due to the fingertip amputation and laceration hazards they pose to children. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) http://www.cpsc.gov and Heath Canada (HC) announced the recall on Wednesday, February 10, 2010.

It is reported that approximately 14,000 umbrella strollers were sold in the United States along with 900 in Canada. Though no injuries have yet to be reported to the firm in correlation with the defective product, the recall was prompted by the discovery that “The stroller’s hinge mechanism poses a fingertip amputation and laceration hazard to the child when the consumer is unfolding/opening the stroller.”

All Britax “Blink” single umbrella strollers are involved in the voluntary recall. The brand name, “Blink” can be located beneath the hand grips on either side of the stroller. Recalled product model numbers include U261813, U261814, U261815, U261816, U261817, U271813, U271817 and U271815. The strollers involved in the recall were reportedly manufactured in China from May 2009 to September 2009. This manufacture date is located on a white label on the stroller frame near the basket.

Recalled Britax “Blink” Umbrella Strollers were sold in juvenile product and mass merchandise retail stores including Buy Buy Baby from July 2009 through February 2010. The strollers were also sold online at www.Amazon.com, www.Babiesrus.com, www.Target.com, and www.Diapers.com at the retail price of approximately $150. Consumers have been advised to stop using the strollers and contact Britax for a complimentary stroller hinge cover. Britax can be reached toll-free at (888) 427-4829 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or online at www.BlinkRecall.com.
