Florida crash involving car and van left two dead.

Hobe Sound, FL—A deadly motor vehicle accident left two women fatally injured on Wednesday, January 6, 2010, reports TCPalm.com. The two-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 1 p.m. on U.S. 1, between Hobe Sound and Stuart.

The motor vehicle collision (MVC) involved a northbound silver Saturn, driven by 52-year-old Katleen Bridgit Lacovara, as well as a southbound red Mercury van, driven by 73-year-old Florence A. Wise. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) allegedly reported that the Saturn overcorrected after veering off the east side of the four-lane divided roadway. This subsequently sent the car careening over the center-median and into the southbound traffic lanes, where the Saturn was struck on its right side by the oncoming van. Both vehicles reportedly came to a rest in the middle of the southbound lanes.

Lacovara’s was allegedly pronounced dead at the scene of the unfortunate wreck. Emergency medical services (EMS) paramedics responded to the crash site to transport Wise via emergency helicopter, but her severe injuries proved fatal before they departed towards the hospital. No others were reported involved or injured in the collision.

U.S. 1 between Hobe Sound and Stuart remained closed for motorist use for about five hours after the accident so police officials could investigate and clear the scene. Motorists were redirected onto Southeast Dixie Highway to continue their travels. The cause of the crash was allegedly unknown.
